College Readiness

Yusuf Young, College Readiness 1
Mr. Young was born in Washington D.C and later attended IU-Indianapolis where he studied Civic Leadership and Political Science. Yusuf gained a love for mentoring and working with youth of all ages through numerous summer positions and internships throughout college. During his time at IU-Indianapolis Yusuf worked with Democracy Action Project (DAP), Horizons Urban Enrichment Program, Breakthrough Collaborative-Miami and the Kaleidoscope Youth Center. After graduating, Mr. Young traveled extensively throughout the country and abroad to broaden his scope of community, social justice and civic engagement. Yusuf later served as the Youth and Community Coordinator for the MLK Community Center and later moved to New Orleans where he worked with Boys Hope/Girls Hope of Greater New Orleans. After traveling and working for several nonprofits Yusuf made a commitment to become a teacher and dedicated his time and talents to ensuring that all youth are given the tools they need to provide for their family and become productive, engaged citizens who are leaders in their homes and communities.

Angela Shuman, College Readiness 2:  Computer ApplicationsMs. Shuman will be teaching College Readiness 2:  Computer Applications this year at KIPP Renaissance. Ms. Shuman is from Georgia were she received a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from Kennesaw State University and worked as a financial analyst for UPS before returning to graduate school to become a teacher. She earned a Master’s degree in Business Education and taught high school for five years with subjects ranging from computer applications to U.S. History. While teaching, she sponsored or co-sponsored many extra-curricular activities including Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA), and drama club. Ms. Shuman has spent the past year living in New Orleans and working at KIPP: Believe College Prep as the data manager. She is thrilled to have an opportunity to return to the classroom and teach the students of New Orleans.
